Genetic health risks

If you think you can’t get diabetes or heart disease if you’re skinny, you need to think again!

A new genetic study finds having low body fat does not mean you’re not susceptible to type two diabetes and heart disease.

Researchers in Boston studied the genes of 75,000 people and found strong evidence that a certain gene is linked to low body fat.

However, the gene was also linked to unhealthy levels of blood sugar and cholesterol.

Experts say it comes down to the type of fat a person has.

Lean individuals may have less fat under their skin but more harmful fat surrounding their organs.
