HAPPENING NOW:

Generic drugs to cost less

People who take prescription medicine may soon be able to get their drugs for less.

Over the next 14 months, seven of the world’s 20 best-selling drugs will be available in generic versions.

These include the two top drugs, cholesterol fighter Lipitor, which is already off patent here in Canada, and blood thinner Plavix.

Expiring patents over the next few years will not only reduce costs for consumers, but also change the economics of the entire multi-billion dollar industry.
