HAPPENING NOW:

Diabetes drug and Alzheimer’s Disease

A Canadian study finds a drug widely used to treat type two diabetes has the potential to one day treat brain injury and Alzheimer’s disease.

Researchers say the drug Metformin helps trigger the mechanism that signals stem cells to become brain cells in mice.

These brain stem cells help repair injured or degenerating brain tissue.

The next step is to test the drug in people, which researchers hope can begin within a year.
