(Updated) There is a deal to end the lockout at U.S. Steel in Nanticoke.

U.S. Steel Canada and United Steelworkers Local 8782 have reached a tentative five year collective agreement.

Workers have been locked out of the Lake Erie Works since April.

Details on the tentative five-year collective agreement will be released at union meetings next week. However union reps say they are not recommending members accept the deal.

Meetings to review the offer will happen next Wednesday in Port Dover, then a vote will take place on Friday in Nanticoke.

Details about the deal will be made public after the ratification process.

Local 8782 members rejected what the company described as its final offer on July 31st. 71 per cent voted down the deal – which offered a two-thousand dollar signing bonus – but charged higher co-payments on benefits.

That deal would have also reduced vacation for new employees and imposed a three-year wage freeze.
