Contract talks for the big three
The United Auto Workers union has now extended its contracts with GM and Chrysler after not meeting a deadline for new agreements.
The contracts for 71,000 American workers ran out at midnight Wednesday.
In a letter sent out just before the deadline, Chrysler’s Italian-Canadian CEO Sergio Marchionne blamed UAW President Bob King for delaying Chrysler’s new contract.
Marchionne says he’d agree to a one-week contract extension while the parties keep talking.
Meanwhile, GM representatives say there has been progress in its talks and are continuing talks Thursday.
