Clean out aging cells
Clearing out old, non-functioning cells appears to lead to healthy aging.
Researchers at the Mayo Clinic studied cells that don’t work anymore but stick around the body and damage healthy tissue.
They created a drug that targets these cells and causes self-destruction.
Mice that received the drug had fewer age-related problems, like cataracts and they were also more active later in life.
Researchers caution there’s still a while to go with the drug.
They plan on testing the drug on other animals and eventually humans.
