Carbon Monoxide detector law passed in Ontario

The province has now passed legislation that makes it mandatory to have a carbon monoxide detector in every home in Ontario just like a smoke alarm. Carbon monoxide is the number one cause of unintentional poisoning deaths in North America. Exposure to high concentrations can cause death in just a few minutes. The colourless, odorless gas creates confusion and drowsiness and interferes with one’s ability to get out of the situation. The legislation allows the fire code to be changed. All three parties supported a private member’s bill introduced by Progressive Conservative Ernie Hardeman.
