Cancer funding in question
Medical researchers are worried about where the Canadian Cancer Society is spending its money.
This comes after an investigation found the charity’s research spending has seen a dramatic drop.
Just under 22% of the organization’s money in 2011 went to research.
That’s down from 40% in 2000 and a difference of $131 million.
The Canadian Cancer Society defends its shift to spending more of its resources to fundraising and administration costs.
They say 40% of their budget that goes towards “mission work” is dedicated to research.
