HAPPENING NOW:

Canadian oil exports

Canadian government and oil industry officials say if the United States does not allow the expansion of a Canadian oil pipeline into the U.S., Canadian oil from Alberta will flow to other world markets.

Federal Natural Resources Minister Joe Oliver says if the U.S. decides it doesn’t want our oil, it is obvious we are going to export it elsewhere.

Environmental concerns are translating into a powerful lobby in the U.S. against Transcanada pipeline’s Keystone Line that would carry Alberta oil to refineries near the Gulf of Mexico.

Oliver says China has emerged as the largest consumer of energy in the world, so it is “utterly obvious what Canada must do.”
