Now that the provincial elections are over, we are focusing on the municipal elections which means this will be the last week we will have our weekly mayor chat until that election is over.

So for one last time before summer we checked in with Burlington mayor Marianne Meed Ward, who is running again, and told Bob Cowan her list of unfinished business.

“We have a climate action plan coming in July.  We just put the finishing touches on the housing strategy.  We have a park provisioning plan, which really talks about the new needs that we will have for our parks for a growing community.  Everything is about growth.”

On another note, Mayor Meed Ward was with Burl-Oak Naval Veterans to mark the 78th anniversary of the D-Day Invasion and the Invasion of Normady.

Bob Cowan also talked to the mayor about some things happening in and around the city this week, including holding a Burlap Banding demo to help prevent spongy moths.  They like to travel up the trunks to the leaves, but if you wrap your trees in burlap it prevents them from climbing up.  The city is also hosting multiple webinars to Bike Month, where you can learn the rules of the road, bike safety and bike maintenance.  For more information click here.  And on a related note, the city is looking at getting about 20 more electric chargers in facilities across the city, as part of the city’s commitment to help and acknowledge the choice people make to purchase an electric vehicle.
