HAPPENING NOW:
Burlington mayor discusses what’s happening for the city’s 150+ anniversary

Burlington Mayor Marianne Meed Ward joined us to discuss what is going on in the city.
One of the biggest events is the celebration of the city’s 150+ years. The plus is an acknowledgment that there have been Indigenous people living in and around the Burlington area for much longer than the 150 years that the city has existed.
There are many events going on to celebrate, including the ‘Love My Neighbourhood’ program where community members can get $500 to throw a party. From a street party to a picnic in the park, the money can be used for any kind of community celebration.
Also discussed were the less fortunate in the community and how mayors in the area are considering homelessness a health issue and are treating it as such. Big city mayors recently met with health minister Sylvia Jones to discuss the issue and how it can be tackled.
And it’s the time of year for community clean-up as well. Visit burlingtongreen.org for details on how you can help.
