Come Thursday, Ontario could be one step closer to an election. That’s when the minority Liberals are releasing their budget. And if it doesn’t get the support of the NDP, we’ll be heading to the polls.

And that support is looking “iffy” at best tonight. The Tories have already said they plan to vote against the budget. Today Premier Wynne said NDP leader Andrea Horwath hasn’t met with her to discuss the budget even though she’s been inviting her to do so since February: “I hope that we will have the opportunity to meet because, Mister Speaker, a lot lies in the balance, a lot lies in the balance including Mister Speaker continuing to build infrastructure in this province.”

Horwath says she wants to see the budget, and consult with the public, before deciding whether or not her party will support the Liberals. This Saturday, Horwath will be holding a nomination meeting for her Hamilton Centre riding, driving speculation that she’s preparing for a spring election.
