The Bronte Creek project focuses on outdoor edcuation, even in this cold weather. Every semester, the program accepts 40 students from grades 10, 11 and 12 and instead of going to a traditional high school, they’re bussed out to Sidrabene campground in Burlington where the entire property is their classroom.

The Halton District school board program splits students time between indoor and outdoor learning, even in chilly weather, students spend a few hours a day snowshoeing or cross country skiing, learning lessons about the environment as they go. They identify trees, study conservation and master survival skills. The content of their lessons is a little different and so is the delivery but students say that’s the beauty of the program.
