BRIGHT Run helps fund programs to support young breast cancer patients

Imagine being 23, with no family history of breast cancer and you find a lump. That’s what happened to Victoria O’Connor of Dundas eight years ago. She found it by accident, warming her hands in her arm pits. A few days later came an aggressive cancer diagnosis, with eight rounds of chemo. A mastectomy followed, then several weeks of radiation.
Victoria’s story is different because of her age. Most breast cancer supports and programs are for older patients, but that’s changing, thanks to a new program at Hamilton’s Juravinski Cancer Centre, partially funded by BRIGHT Run.
Victoria joined us this morning with Bright Run event chair, Nancy McMillan ahead of this year’s fundraiser which happens on Saturday September 9th at it’s new location at Christie Lake Conservation Area.
