BMO buys U.S. bank chain
Canada’s oldest bank is boosting its profile south of the border to increase lending to small and medium size businesses.
The Bank of Montreal has bought U.S. bank chain Marshall and Ilsley for just over $4 billion.
The acquisition of 374 M and I branches more than doubles BMO’s network in the U.S.
It’ll now have about 700 locations, spread across six states.
