Blood transfusions

New research suggests Jehovah’s Witnesses who refuse blood transfusions during heart surgery are at no greater health risk.

In fact, they may actually fare better than other patients.

Jehovah’s Witnesses refuse transfusions due to religious beliefs, but researchers say they face similar risks of dying in hospital as those who do get the transfusion.

The study shows Jehovah’s Witnesses have lower chances of needing additional operations due to complications and spend less time in hospital.
