Birth control and blood clots

Some types of birth control pills are more likely to cause blood clots than others.

A large study in Denmark has found that some oral contraceptives have almost twice the risk of causing serious clots than pills with an older type of progesterone.

Researchers stress that the risk of these clots is low, and say oral contraceptives are still a safe form of birth control.
