Benefits of diagnostic imaging

Researchers looked at Medicare claims filed for diagnostic imaging tests, like MRI’s and CT scans, from 1994 to 2009.

They found the use of these tests has increased over the years.

However, experts say routine scans conducted on terminally ill patients may increase their anxiety without a clinical benefit.

They’re seeking more guidance on the proper use of these scans in stage four cancer patients.
