HAPPENING NOW:

Alzheimer’s test

A brain imaging scan might someday be able to identify people in the earliest stages of Alzheimer’s disease.

Researchers studied more than 300 seniors, none of whom had any sign of cognitive problems.

They had pet scans and an advanced brain imaging technique called “Proton MR Spectroscopy” to look for abnormalities.

Those with higher levels of certain brain metabolites were more likely to have slightly lower scores on cognitive tests.

Experts say earlier detection could give patients a chance for new treatments.
