The second study compiled data from families with a genetic risk for early Alzheimer’s.

Researchers found a spinal fluid sample could indicate which patients will develop the disease fifteen years before symptoms begin.

They also found certain areas of the brain start to shrink more than a decade before patients exhibit memory problems.

But many of these tests are invasive, or still investigational, and can’t be used on a routine basis.
