HAPPENING NOW:
ADHD being misdiagnosed
A new study out of B.C. suggests some kids may be misdiagnosed with attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder simply because they’re younger than their classmates.
Researchers looked at a large group of nearly 1 million school children between the ages of 6 and 12.
Among kindergarten students, those born in December were almost 40% more likely to be diagnosed with ADHD than the kids born in January.
ADHD is diagnosed based on a child’s behavior.
Researchers say younger children may be mistakenly diagnosed simply because they are less mature.
