Accuracy of obesity rates

Statistics Canada says the accuracy of its childhood obesity rates are being thrown off because parents aren’t submitting correct information.

The agency says parents often underestimate their child’s height by as much as three centimeters and their weight by more than two pounds.

That means many children whose weight is under reported could in fact be obese.

And those whose height was under-reported could end up wrongly being classified as obese.
