Looking for a new wine to try this weekend while you entertain or relax alone?

Today we headed to the Pacific Northwest with Super Wine Girl Angela Aiello, who joined us with some great wine recommendations out of Washington State.

What Makes Washington State Wine Unique?

Washington State is also known as the “wild west” of the wine regions in the U.S.

Just east of two mountain ranges, this area is perfect for wine production due to its latitude of 46 degrees and ideal climate.

While the warm fall days allow for full ripeness and color, the cool Washington nights help maintain crisp natural acidity.

Approximately 70 grape varieties are grown in the region, allowing winemakers to specialize in a number of wines such as cabernet, chardonnay, merlot, riesling and Syrah blends.

5 Must-Try Washington State Wines

One of Aiello’s favourite Washington State wines is the Kung Fu Girl Riesling 2019.

This extra-dry wine is described as juicy and sweet, with smoky notes alongside citrus, petrol, herbal and spicy tones. It pairs well with hot curries, ribs or grilled shrimp appetizers dipped in a spicy sauce.

Other wines from Washington State that Aiello recommended were Columbia Crest Grand Estates Chardonnay, Columbia Crest H3 Cabernet Sauvignon, Seven Falls Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon and Velvet Devil Merlot 2019.
