November is Woman Abuse Prevention Month, but it is not just a women’s issue. Halton Women’s Place is raising the flag that everyone needs to get involved.

Carm Bozzo, manager of development and communications at Halton Women’s Place, shared three ways the public can make a difference this month.

Raising Purple Flags

To commemorate Woman Abuse Prevention Month, the shelter will be raising purple flags throughout the Halton region this month.

So far, flags have been raised at Burlington City Hall, Oakville Town Hall and Halton Hills Town Hall.

Another purple flag will be raised at Milton Town Hall on Nov. 8 at 3 p.m.

“It’s really important to fly those flags to show everyone what this month is about,” Bozzo said.

Wear Purple Day

Another way you can honour Woman Abuse Prevention Month is by wearing a purple shirt on Nov.15.

Bozzo encouraged the public to wear purple on this day to show women who are experiencing gender-based violence they are not alone.

Lottery For Hope

Halton Women’s Place is also running a 50/50 draw called the Lottery For Hope to provide a safe future for women and children.

“It’s a unique way to support Halton Women’s Place and show women that you’re giving them hope in order to leave a violent relationship,” Bozzo said.
