Winter is coming and warm weather destinations are calling! Travel writer Heather Greenwood Davis was here this morning to highlight spots that have something to offer beyond their sunny skies.

Heather just recently got back from Nassau, Bahamas, which tends to get a bad wrap due to the really big hotels and casinos. But a great place to check out is The Baha Mar Rosewood, which is on the beach and has a butler service and flamingo yoga, and a great collection of art.

Every Rosewood hotel has a PlaceMaker. In 2022 they named Bahamian John Cox for Rosewood Baha Mar. Cox is an artist and he’s designed all kinds of hands-on art experiences and tours of the art on site at Baha Mar.”

A second destination to visit is St. Georges, Bermuda. Heather stayed at the St. Regis, which is known for creating the Bloody Mary. If you leave the resort don’t miss the chance to take a historic tour with Kristen White to see original homes items listed on the UNESCO slave route and more.

Another place that is steeped in history is New Orleans, Louisiana. While New Orleans is known for partying down Bourbon St. and eating great food, there is also plenty to see while there. If you are planning a visit in November, the The Dew Drop Inn is reopening.

“This legendary hotel and bar was listed in The Negro Motorist Green Book – the publication that told Black travelers safe spaces to overnight in when travelling through segregated cities – and has hosted legends. Think: Ray Charles, James Brown, Sam Cooke, Etta James, Aretha Franklin, Ike & Tina Turner and Otis Redding, to name just a few. Little Richard even wrote a song ‘Dew Drop Inn”’ about the venue, and it’s where he wrote Tutti Frutti.”

While in New Orleans you can also check out the final pavilion at the WWII Museum. The Liberation Pavilion will have exhibits that look at the Holocaust, war crime, civil rights movements and the fight for freedom.
