Mohawk College is introducing a new community program designed to encourage young people to explore careers in the automotive and smart mobility sector.

The program at Mohawk College is part of Ontario Vehicle Network’s (OVIN) Regional Future Workforce Program.

It starts this summer and is open to more than 500 students from local school boards in grades five to 12.

Students can participate in activities to build their skills and awareness, as well as explore careers in the connected world, sustainability and automotive industries.

Mohawk College received $400,000 from OVIN to start this program.

“Our government will continue to invest in innovative projects that help people get the skills they need to land better jobs with bigger pay cheques in the auto industry,” says Monte McNaughton, Ontario’s Minister of Labour.

The program also connects local high school students with employers in the automotive skilled trades and technology industries.

Caroline Mulroney, Ontario’s Minister of Transportation, says the programs offered by OVIN  are critical to ensuring the province has skilled workers needed to fill the jobs of today and tomorrow.
