The Ministry of Labour is investigating the death of an employee in an accident on Friday at a ArcelorMittal Dofasco Hamilton location.

President and CEO of Dofasco Ron Bedard sent an email late Friday night notifying employees that there was a workplace death “on site.”

The head of corporate affairs for ArcelorMittal Dofasco Lisa Marcuzzi sent a statement Sunday to CHCH News that reads, “We lost a valued colleague in a workplace fatality. We are devastated and this is an incredibly difficult time.”

The statement also reads that the Hamilton steel making company would be working with local authorities as investigations continue.

The Ontario Ministry of Labour says they were notified of an accident on Friday and confirmed the death of an employee on Sunday.

It adds that its initial report is that the worker was pinned between two vehicles, but is unable to provide further details as the investigation remains ongoing.

The department says a ministry inspector is attending the site and issued an order to not disturb the scene as they investigate the death.

Both the company and the department have not disclosed details on who died, or any details of the accident, but offer their condolences for the employee’s family and friends.
