Metrolinx says it is working to make it easier to take transit with the latest price drop in PRESTO cards taking effect on Tuesday.

In a statement released last Wednesday, the Ontario government agency announced that PRESTO cards will now cost $4, down from the original $6 per card.

The cards can be used to pay travel fares across 11 different transit agencies in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton area and Ottawa, including GO Transit and Up Express.

Metrolinx notes that though fees for travel itself are not changing, it is free to transfer to GO Transit from most local transit systems.

Riders also have the option to use debit and credit cards while using any GO services.

PRESTO cards are available for purchase at various transit customer service outlets, Shoppers Drug Mart stores, fare vending machines and ticket vending machines.
