Students, staff and faculty at McMaster should expect a campus-wide alert to sound off on Thursday as the school tests its emergency systems.
The test is scheduled to begin at 10:20 a.m.
School officials say they’ll be sending a push notification to all smartphones that have downloaded the McMaster Safety App before an audible siren rings out across the campus.

Indoor sirens will play a pre-recorded message clarifying that a test is taking place and then a wailing sound will play at full volume.
The test is scheduled to take place in the following buildings on campus:
- McMaster University Student Centre (MUSC)
- Michael G. DeGroote Centre for Learning and Discovery (MDCL)
- David Braley Athletic Centre (DBAC)
- Ivor Wynne Centre and David Braley Athletic Centre (IWC)
The McMaster Safety App is a free smartphone application designed to send push notifications to students, staff and faculty in the event of an emergency.
It provides school officials with an easy way to quickly disseminate crucial information such as safety alerts, campus closures and instructions that those on campus can follow during an emergency.
