McMaster ‘close’ to eliminating bacteria from residence building water supply

McMaster University says it is “close” to eliminating bacteria contaminating the water supply at a downtown Hamilton residence building.
In an update, the university says water consultants completed an additional round of chlorination on Tuesday at the building at 10 Bay Street.
Crews then flushed the system and collected water samples for testing. More water samples will then be taken on Thursday for comparison.
The university says results from these most recent water samples will be available later this week, and another update will be shared on Friday.

The 23 students from floors 10 to 16 affected by the coliform bacteria were forced to temporarily relocate while their water supply was chlorinated.
This follows a complete phased building evacuation at the beginning of the month that saw some 200 residents pack up their bags and vacate the premises.
McMaster University says bottled water will continue to be offered to all residents in the building as it works towards fully resolving this issue.
