Hamilton mayor Andrea Horwath sat down with Annette Hamm to discuss different development projects that are on hold in the city right now.
The Jamesville housing development has been hit with another major setback related to the ongoing dispute between the city and CN Rail over the proximity to the tracks. Mayor Horwath says that talks are still happening though, which is a positive sign that things will move in the right direction.
Another housing development has caused a lot of heated moments in council. That development would see two Stoney Creek parking lots be turned into affordable housing. Hamilton City Council has voted on this matter twice, with each time ending in a tie and a heated debate. The mayor stepped in and used her Strong Mayor Powers, and the vote went through and 67 affordable houses will be built on the site.
The LRT is the last project discussed as Hamilton Transit workers and union advocates have issue with council’s vote to allow a private third party to run the future LRT System. The private party would run the system for 10 years, before transitioning it to public workers. The decision will be presented to Metrolinx next, who have a final say on the operations.
