Dramatic testimony today at the Tim Bosma murder trial. Earlier this week we found out that Dellan Millard would not take the stand but for the first time in 14 weeks the jury heard from one of Bosma’s accused killers and what Mark Smich had to say was stunning.

This was a horrible day for the Bosma family. When Mark Smich started talking about driving down the Bosma driveway, in Tim Bosma’s truck, his mother Mary Bosma got up sobbing, left court and didn’t come back. Smich says he thought this was going to be just another theft, where he and Millard would scope out a vehicle and then consider stealing it. They had been scoping diesel pickups for a year.

Tim Bosma wanted to know why the duo didn’t park in his driveway for the test drive. Millard told him a friend dropped him off on the way to Tim Hortons. Then, Smich says at the end of the drive, Millard took out his phone and told Bosma the friend couldn’t find Tim Horton’s. They drove to where his Yukon was parked, around the corner and Millard told Smich to ride with the friend. There wasn’t actually another person. Smich says he followed behind Tim Bosma’s truck in the Yukon.

Half an hour later video shows the vehicles pull up outside a Bobcat dealer in Brantford. Smich says this is where the Bosma truck suddenly swerved and Millard pulled over. Smich said, Millard walked toward the Yukon putting what looked like a gun in his satchel.

“I asked him what was going on and he said, I’m taking the truck,” Smich testified Millard then gave him a flashlight and Smich followed. “I seen a bullet hole in the window, and Mr. Bosma with his head against the dashboard,” Smich said. Row upon row of Bosma’s loved ones cried out painfully at that.

Smich told the court Millard told him to switch Bosma’s licence plates for the ones they brought. He did. He says Millard was loud and forceful. They drove to the farm and Smich says Millard put Bosma in a tarp. He wanted help putting his body in the incinerator but Smich says he refused because his shoulder hurt. He went to move the Yukon instead.

They took the incinerator to the hangar and Millard ignited it. Later they stripped and washed Tim Bosma’s truck of blood and burned the seats. A couple days later Millard was back to his old self and Smich says that scared him even more.

His lawyer Thomas Dungey asked Smich why he didn’t go to police. Smich says he was confused.
