Manufacturing plant employing 220 people in Burlington closing by year end

An automotive manufacturing plant employing 220 people in Burlington announced Wednesday it will close its doors by the end of the year.

Henniges Automotive Holdings Inc. says its optimizing its footprint to adjust to challenging economic conditions within the automotive industry.

Its Burlington plant, located at 4445 Fairview St., specializes in producing vehicle sealing systems and employs 220 people who are represented by Workers United Canada Council.

The company says this move will help it continue to be competitive, and it’s consolidating its operations to existing facilities so there are no disruptions in service.

Henniges Automotive is a creator of sealing systems for vehicle doors, windows, trunks, lift gates, sunroofs and hoods as well as encapsulated glass systems.

The Burlington location is the only Henniges Automotive location in Canada, with the next closest plant just outside of Detroit.

The company has more than 9,000 employees worldwide, with facilities in North America, Europe and Asia.
