Man charged with 1st-degree murder in fatal St. Catharines shooting

A man from Brampton has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder following a fatal shooting in St. Catharines over the weekend.

Niagara police responded to the incident Saturday around 9:30 p.m. in the area of St. Paul St. West and Louth St.

Upon arrival, police found a man and woman suffering from gunshot wounds. Police say the man was pronounced dead at the scene and the woman was taken to hospital where she remains with life threatening injuries.

Friends of the man who was killed tell CHCH News he was from Jamaica and had been working on farms in the area for years.

They add the shooting involved a former boyfriend of the woman – but police have not confirmed that. Investigators do say they believe this was a targeted incident.

Williams is currently being held in custody pending a bail hearing on Tuesday at a St. Catharines courthouse.
