Man charged for trying to set fire to large Hamilton apartment building

Hamilton police have charged a 36-year-old man accused of attempting to set fire to an apartment that houses nearly 200 units earlier this year.
Emergency crews responded shortly after 5:30 a.m. on Feb. 10 for reports of a fire at an apartment building located at 40 Oxford St.
Investigators say the man was caught on camera using a propane tank and blowtorch attachment to set the utility room on fire.

On Thursday, police say Christopher Michael Norton has been charged with arson – disregard for human life, possession of incendiary material and mischief under $5,000 (damaging property).
