Man, 37, charged in fatal hit-and-run of an elderly NOTL cyclist

Detectives have arrested and charged a 37-year-old man in the death of a cyclist who was struck by a truck in Niagara-on-the-Lake in July.
Eighty-four-year-old Nester Chemerika was cycling on East West Line near Concession 2 Road on July 13 when he was struck by a pewter coloured 1999 GMC Sierra pick up truck that fled the scene.
He was found laying in the ditch on East West Ln. by officers patrolling the area. Police believe the Chemerika was struck from behind while he was riding his bike westbound on the north side of East West Lane, between Niagara Road. and Concession 2 Road.

Chemerika would ultimately succumb to his injuries while in hospital on July 25.
Investigators would locate and seize the pewter coloured 1999 GMC Sierra pickup truck involved in the collision in Niagara Falls on July 19 while continuing to look to identify the driver of the vehicle.
On Tuesday, police arrested Richard Allen Moore of Niagara Falls in connection with the death. He now faces charges of careless driving causing death and failing to stop after an accident causing death.
Moore is being held in custody awaiting a bail hearing on Wednesday.
