Motorists will need to use another route between the escarpment and the lower city during a partial closure of the Jolley Cut next week.
The roadway’s southbound lanes heading up Hamilton Mountain will be fully closed, while only one downbound lane will remain open between Sept. 30 and Oct. 7 at 6 a.m.
The City of Hamilton says the temporary closure is necessary in order to install new sewers and fully restore the road at the intersection of John Street and St. Joseph’s Drive.
“Due to the depth of excavation and the scale of the project, a full closure is required for the safety of workers and the public,” reads a statement from the city.

St. Joseph’s Drive will also be closed at James Street, with local access only. Although, the parking structure on St. Joseph’s Drive will stay open from James Street.
The city says John Street will be closed at Charlton Avenue, with local access only as well.
A signed detour will direct traffic west from John Street to Charlton Avenue, then south to James Street to access the Mountain. Signs on Main Street will advise drivers to use the Claremont Access.
An HSR detour has also been established.
The city says emergency services will not be impacted.
