Luke Tasker making CFL debut this weekend

He’s only been with the Tiger-Cats for ten days, but it looks like Luke Tasker, who was released by the San Diego Chargers about four weeks ago, will be making his debut in black and gold this weekend.

Ticats head coach Kent Austin says that one of Luke Tasker’s greatest attributes is his speed, and things have been moving very fast for the 22 year-old, who signed last Tuesday, and will make his first CFL start on Saturday night.

“It’s a pretty quick transition, a pretty drastic change from where my life was 2-3 weeks ago to where it is now,” he says.

Rookie of the Year candidate Greg Ellingson is still nursing an undisclosed lower body injury which opened the door for Tasker to join the same offensive style he excelled-at when he played at Cornell for Austin, and his offensive coordinator, Tommy Condell.

“It came back a little faster than i expected it to. I feel good with the way it is and it’s been a lot of work in the last 2 weeks, and a lot of help from the coaching staff, being able to get the memorization back, but i’m feeling pretty comfortable.”

Luke’s dad, seven-time NFL pro-bowler, Steve Tasker, will be making the trip to Guelph to see his son’s professional debut, with the rest of his family, who live just an hour and a half away in upstate New York.

“I can tell you what his advice is going to be: Just relax and do your job as best you can, you can never play outside yourself, and you gotta have fun doing this. I’m just excited that my family gets to come see me, that means a lot to me and i know they’re excited for me as well,” he says.
