London community remembers the Afzaal family 2 years after deadly attack

A vigil was held Tuesday evening in London, Ont. to mark the second anniversary of the truck attack that killed four members of the Afzaal family.

Police have said they believe the incident was hate-motivated, and that the family was targeted due to their Muslim faith.
The community in London continues to tackle Islamophobia two years after the family was struck and killed by a truck on June 6, 2021. The couple’s nine-year-old son was injured in the attack but survived.

Community members say some progress has been made to address Islamophobia but more work is needed. The City of London hired a Muslim community advisor recently and has implemented an action plan to combat the issues, hoping to be an example to other municipalities.
