Lockdown lifted at Sherwood Secondary School after weapon report

A lockdown has been lifted at Sherwood Secondary School Monday afternoon following reports of a person with a weapon.
An automated emergency alert system notice went out around 12:20 p.m., saying that the high school was “in lockdown due to a potentially serious violent threat or incident on school property.”
The school asked people to not contact it or any student at this time in order to keep phone lines open for emergency calls.
Hamilton police say they searched the school and did not find any weapons.

The lockdown was lifted shortly before 1:30 p.m.
“It is important to emphasize that both staff and students remained safe as officers worked to verify the information reported of a weapon,” the force says in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Officers remain at the scene for an investigation.
