Details
The Stop Sprawl Students events team plans to take students on a Farmer’s Market Visit in March.
One of our main goals at Stop Sprawl Students is to show students the importance of the farmland surrounding the city. Farmland and natural land outside of the city is intrinsically and practically important. One of the benefits we receive from having these nearby farmlands is local, fresh produce which is mainly sold at farmer’s markets. Many students have never been to these markets, or have never been in Hamilton, and we want to change that.
Upon attending this event, students will receive a homemade lunch prepared with all local ingredients so that they can get a taste of fresh produce before they buy it. We will have some speeches about the importance and benefits of buying local. Then we will take a trip to the Farmer’s Market where students will be able to interact with local farmers and vendors.
This event will introduce a lifestyle change that will allow students to be more sustainable, during a fun field trip with their friends. Overall, the goals for the event are to immerse students in a sustainable lifestyle change, and educate them about local agriculture.
