Lacrosse tournament raises money for young athletes in Niagara Region

First Published:

Around 100 people attended a lacrosse tournament in St. Catharines on Saturday to raise funds for youth athletes in the Niagara Region.

Families were enjoying music, food, and lacrosse, with activities for the kids at the 4th Annual JKR Liddiard Memorial Charity Lacrosse Tournament. An event that helps raise money for an organization called Niagara Youth Need Sports.

Organizer Kevin Liddiard says all proceeds raised go back into the Niagara community to support young athletes who don’t have the financial support.

“Our goal is to keep kids active in sports and to not leave any kids behind because of financial barriers we want to eradicate that.”

Niagara Youth Need Sports Co-founder says that it has supported over 40 young athletes already this year.

“We’ve had a pretty good impact we’ve put close to 50 kids this year into sports. We make sure they got the equipment and get to where they need to go and we are always there to mentor them.”

Last year, the fundraising effort brought in over $3,500, and this year they aim to raise $50,000.
