Keep pandemic pay for retail workers: Unifor

First Published:

Unifor continues to call on grocery chains to maintain pandemic pay for retail workers.

Loblaw Companies was the first to announce it was ending the $2 an hour premium effective last weekend.

That announcement was followed by similar ones by other chains, including Metro and Sobeys.

The union says the pandemic pay bump should be permanent and is launching a new campaign “Fair Pay Forever.”

“Hazard pay for workers during the pandemic is the minimum that employers can do during these unprecedented times,” said the union in a statement.

“Employers must commit to permanently improving the living conditions of workers.”

Unifor is holding a virtual rally Friday afternoon.
