Jama acclaimed as NDP candidate, running for Horwath’s old seat

A prominent activist will replace Andrea Horwath as the NDP candidate for Hamilton Centre in an upcoming provincial byelection.
Sarah Jama tweeted on Sunday that she’ll be acclaimed as the NDP candidate running for member of provincial parliament in the riding.

She says there will be a nomination meeting and dance party at the Worker’s Arts and Heritage Museum on November 3.
The new democrats confirm Jama is the only approved candidate.
Jama is a 28-year-old Black, disabled caregiver and the co-founder of the disability justice network of Ontario.
She is also a renter in downtown Hamilton and grew up using the Ontario Disability Support Program.
Jama announced her intention to seek the nomination in late July, shortly after Horwath stepped down as MPP.
