Israel says Iran has fired missiles, instructs residents to take shelter

First Published:

Israel Defense Forces have reported that missiles have been launched from Iran to Israel and the Israeli government has instructed Jerusalem residents to shelter in place.

Dozens of missiles have been witnessed in the night sky over the country and its capital and sirens have been sounding throughout the evening.

Early reports are that several missiles have been intercepted, but it’s unclear how many.

According to Iran’s Tasnim news agency, Iran said it targeted Israel in response to the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in Lebanon on Sept. 27, among other targeted deaths.

The official ‘X’ account of the Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations posted a statement on its page.

The Israeli military continues to warn people to evacuate nearly two dozen Lebanese border communities after announcing what it said were limited ground operations against Hezbollah.

It said it would retaliate if Hezbollah-ally Iran launched a missile attack on Israel that a senior U.S. official said could come “imminently.”

The U.S. warned this week of “severe” consequences should Iran fire any ballistic missiles into Israel.

This is a developing news story — updates to come.
