Israel-Hamas truce in Gaza extended for two more days

First Published:

The government of Qatar says Israel and Hamas have agreed to a two-day extension to the pause in hostilities that began on Friday, which has included the release of some of the hostages taken by Hamas, in exchange for Palestinian prisoners held by Israel.

The hostage deal had seemed on the verge of unraveling, as Hamas had accused Israel of failing to keep its side of the bargain, and Israel threatened to resume its lethal onslaught on the Gaza strip.

But Qatari negotiators worked all weekend to save the deal between Israel and Hamas’ rulers and thankfully, an agreement has been reached to extend the truce between both sides for another two days.

To discuss more, we’re joined by Alex Neve – Senior Fellow with the University of Ottawa’s Graduate School of Public and International Affairs, and former secretary general at Amnesty International Canada.
