HWDSB votes to keep Sherwood Secondary School open, proceed with renovations

First Published:

Hamilton’s Public School Board has voted to keep Sherwood Secondary School open, and proceed with renovations that will bring the school up to code, and add upgrades.

The decision is a big relief to teachers, students, and members of the community who worried the board was going to shut it down. After months of debate, the decision has been to give Sherwood high school a future.

The board decided to go with the second option of moving students to the Barton site for September 2022 while major renovations take place and then let students return back to Sherwood Secondary School when it’s complete.

The Hamilton Wentworth District School Board says the school needs around 12 million dollars worth of upgrades which includes adding a new roof and removing asbestos.

Dawn Danko, HWDSB chair says it’s a permanent decision and the next step is forming a transition committee.
