HAPPENING NOW:
How to attain the perfect posture

If you find yourself slouching, chiropractor Nekessa Remy joined us with some tips to attain perfect posture.
There are plenty of postural devices Remy recommends to help practice good posture.
“They give you an idea of how you should be sitting when you are sitting for long periods of time,” said Remy.
Posture Strap
Remy says to pull the strap over your shoulders and they will pull the shoulders back for better alignment. It is very adjustable and can be worn above or below clothing.
“You don’t have to wear it for long periods of time,” Remy said. “It is meant to give you an idea of how to sit up-right.”
She says not to wear them for more than a half-hour and notes that when you are not using it, you can perform postural exercises. She says this is the key to great posture.
Postural Brace
Remy says braces offer firmer support and give a solid reminder to pull your shoulder blades back to counteract the tendency to hunch over a computer or phone.
“You can wear these for a couple hours,” said Remy. “These are really good, especially if you have pain with posture.”
Remy says people living with Scoliosis can benefit from braces, but she recommends postural clothing more.
Postural Clothing
Clothes designed to promote better posture can be worn under clothing, like a bra.
“For someone who has structural issues like Scoliosis, you will want to look for postural clothing, which will be more comfortable [than braces and straps],” said Remy.
Postural clothing is good for all day use, especially if someone is doing physical activity.
Postural Tape
“This is one of my favourite things and what I always use in the office,” said Remy.
She says the great thing about postural tape, is that you can wear it overnight. It is also less restrictive and more flexible.
Remy says to cut off two pieces of the tape and make an ‘x’ on your back. This will pull back the shoulders and train good posture.
Postural Gadgets
Remy recommends the Upright Go Electrical Posture Trainer, which is a wearable device that provides gentle electric reminders to alert you when you’re slouching.
This device attaches either via a clip to the front of a bra or with adhesive to the skin on your upper back and vibrates when posture starts to slip.
Remy recommends this for those requiring minimal to moderate correction.
