Hold-and-secure lifted at Bishop Tonnos high school: Hamilton police

A hold-and-secure has been lifted at Bishop Tonnos Catholic Secondary School in Hamilton after police responded to an “external threat to the school” Monday morning.

Details are limited at this time, but officers say the threat was made toward the school over the phone.

Police say they are continuing to “work through information that has been reported to police.”

This is the third time a Hamilton high school has been placed into a lockdown or hold-and-secure in the past week.

Last Wednesday Bernie Custis high school was placed on lockdown for reports of an individual with a gun on school grounds.

That incident resulted in five people being arrested in a vehicle found nearby the school and one 15-year-old student facing drug-related charges.

The following day, Bernie Custis was once again placed under lockdown as police responded around noon to a fight between two teenagers and two people in high-visibility vests at a bus shelter near King Street West and Caroline Street South.

Investigators say one of the teenagers fired a gun when the altercation escalated.

The lockdown was implemented after police received a tip that one of the suspects may have heeded towards the school.

This is a developing news story. More to come.
