Hamilton police are investigating after a man was shot outside of Cooler’s Sports Bar on Upper Gage Avenue on Saturday night. It is the city’s 51st shooting of the year.

Police received a 911 call around 11:15 p.m. regarding shots fired in the parking lot outside of Cooler’s bar in a strip plaza at the corner of Fennell Ave. East and Upper Gage Avenue.

Upon arrival at the scene, police found a male victim in his 30s with a gun shot wound to his leg and located multiple bullet casings around the plaza.

The victim was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries where he was treated for his injuries and later released.

Several businesses in the area sustained damage from the bullets.

The Shooting Response Team was called to investigate and police released the scene at around 3:30 a.m. following forensic examination.

The motive and suspect or suspects for the shooting have yet to be identified and the direction of travel and description of the shooter(s) is currently unknown.

Investigators are requesting anyone with video in the area of Fennell Ave. East and Upper Gage Avenue to check their surveillance footage between 11:00 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. on September 21 for a person or persons fleeing the area.

Police say that while staff at Cooler’s bar have been cooperative they have so far received “limited cooperation” from the public.

They urge any witnesses to contact the Shooting Response Team at 905-546-4883 or by email at shootingresponseteam@hamiltonpolice.ca.
